Yesterday was just so hot that I almost felt like having a heat stroke. I had to go to the hospital to pick up my 2 daughters and my wife despite having a sore throat and fever. When I reached the hospital, my fever shot up to 39 degrees celsius and my head felt like exploding. Fortunately the hospital was air conditioned so I got to rest for awhile before we went home after my 2 daughters were discharged. They were in the hospital with my wife for almost a full week due to sore throat (tonsilitis) coupled with high fevers.

In short, we got home, and greeting us was my youngest daughter who was with her Ninang for the rest of the week. I quickly found myself lying in the bed as I felt like my eyes were bulging out of their sockets. My head was in pain and I felt my joints starting to feel pain also. I felt the heat taking its toll on my head so I decided to take a shower. The comfort of the shower was shortlived as I got out of the bathroom. The pain started again so I decided to get an ice pack, wrapped it in a towel, and pressed it all over my head and my eyes. Only then that I felt this was the right thing to do because the pain started to subside. During and after dinner, the ice pack was beside me for instant relief. My wife also felt the heat so we shared the same ice pack.

Right until I was about to sleep, the ice pack was beside me.

Upon checking with Google the symptoms of heat stroke, the following came up:
* headache /
* dizziness /
* disorientation, agitation or confusion /
* sluggishness or fatigue /
* hot, dry skin that is flushed but not sweaty /
* a high body temperature /
* rapid heart beat /
* hallucinations
* seizure
* loss of consciousness

Thank God! I was a few minutes away from the 3 symptoms that could have meant a disaster.

I myself have worked night/graveyard shifts for almost 3 years and it really took a toll on my physical fitness. I gained a lot of weight (from 65kg to 75kg, that’s about 22pounds!) since then. Now after almost 3 years, I finally managed to free myself from this job and i’m now working normal hours. I’ve lost more than 10 pounds and almost 3 inches from my waistline.
